Group Show of Group Shows
Each of the participating groups has produced at least one event. ABCyz simply provides a space under one roof for a group of groups to present what they do – and present themselves to broader audiences while amongst their colleagues and friends. It’s a large potluck dinner of visual art: a big table is ready, the house lights are on, you’re part of the conviviality. Participating groups bring their contributions and share with friends, colleagues and the contemporary art public.
Collective of Collectives
This is a collective effort – all volunteer and not-for-profit. The event is participant-driven and non-hierarchical. Collaborate. Overlap. Inspire improvisation. Aid, abet and constructively challenge your neighbors and visitors and put your best foot forward (as straightforwardly (or not) as possible). Be somewhat reasonable practically, and moreover, be somewhat un-reasonable conceptually. Let something new arise.
PowWowing, DIY Production and Dynamic Improvisation
ABCyz provides a shared stage to powwow and each group sets up its presentation; a section of wallspace, a monitor or projection, a publication or performance, as it sees fit. The choice of how to present and protect work is up to each group. The combined individual and collective endeavor is supported by the participants themselves. Think of it like camping in a conceptual framework: prep-a-plan, pack-in and pack-out what you need to bring along.
Open Doors and Windows
Donate as you wish, pay what you can. Invite your neighbors and non-art-world friends too. Entry and exit is as fluid as possible. Styles, they also come and go – the post-post-modern condition in critical contemporary art is open-ended and the menu should be diverse and open-minded.
Open Source
The printed materials are free and online for downloading. ABCyz is open-source – in the future, anyone will be able to download a blank copy of the website and event structure info and stage a production of their own in their city. For more information about open-source access, please email us at
Meeting and Greeting
The art world according to Facebook is but a few degrees of separation. A very large cocktail party? Find someone who is drinking what you're drinking and say hello for a moment, suspending suspicion for an easy greeting.
